Airsoft Guns - Realistic Shooting Fun

A large recreational sports industry has blossomed around Airsoft guns. These guns primarily fire plastic pellets with a circumference of six to eight millimeters. Pellets discharge at a rate of ninety to six hundred feet per second. The guns themselves can have all the characteristics of a toy gun up to being indistinguishable from the real thing. Prices have a similar range. For as little as ten dollars and going up to as much as a few thousand dollars you can partake in this growing hobby. Guns can be used for recreational shooting, target practice, competitions, and even military and police training. Airsoft guns use a variety of ways to propel the pellets. One way is through spring action. The spring is cocked before each firing. Because of this the gun is limited to a single shot. The upside to the spring version is there is no reliance on gas or electricity which makes it simpler to use and able to function in more extreme conditions. And because there are no batteries or gas pr...

What Propellants Are Used in Gas Airsoft Guns?

Gas airsoft guns are becoming more and more popular across the U. S. For their realism, functionality, accuracy, and cost of operation, to name only a few of the countless reasons. The propellant used to fire this type of guns is a crucial aspect in their operation as well as their maintenance. A few of the most often used propellants are 134A, green gas, and CO2. The gas that should be used in any particular airsoft gun should be determined by more than one factor. First of all, the temperature in which the gun is being used can affect the gas pressure which in turn affects the gun's firing power. Since one propellant may be appropriate in one temperature may be also be harmful to use in, say, a temperature that is 30 degrees Fahrenheit warmer, the fact that most gas type guns are designed for only one type of propellant is indeed a common problem. As hot weather can cause gas to become too powerful, cold weather can render an airsoft gun useless. This is because the cold tempera...

My Ammonia Pistol Was Only the Beginning

When I was a teenager and started hanging out with my girl friends at malls, movie theaters, etc., it dawned on all of us that we each needed to have some sort of weapon to protect ourselves. Back then, I did not know about pepper spray. I was very naive and sheltered by my parents. In the 70's there were no personal computers or Internet, where you can surf and find self defense products. I can't recall who was the genius who mentioned it first or had the brainstorm, but somehow the idea came up for us to use a water pistol and fill it with ammonia! Well, that was the best thing I had ever heard of! What a great idea! I didn't waste any time, I went to a store that had toys and purchased an orange water pistol. My mother always had ammonia for cleaning the bathrooms, so I poured some of it in the water pistol. I made sure that it would not leak and put it inside my favorite purse. I checked it a few hours later to see if the purse stunk like ammonia, and fortunately it did...

Choosing a Lever Actuated or Pistol Style Grease Gun

When choosing a mechanical grease gun, the two basic choices are lever actuated or pistol or hand grip. In general more pressure can be gained by using a lever actuated grease gun. This is, not surprisingly, because a lever actuated grease gun, has more leverage than a pistol grip gun does. The pistol style guns are more ergonomically friendly and easier to use. In general, lever style guns will generate around 10,000 PSI while the pistol style will generate around 7500 PSI. If you need more than 7500 PSI, obviously, no other factors will come into play and you should get a lever style gun. If you can use less than 7500 PSI, a pistol style may be for you. Typically a pistol style gun can be actuated by one had, like a gun, while the other hand can hold the hose and coupler onto the zerk fitting. If you are in a tight area, you will have little choice but to use the pistol grip gun as you will need one hand to snake the hose to the point of lubrication and hold it there. If this is...
